I was talking to a friend recently and we got into a debate about car maintenance myths, and it made me wonder how many of us are still following outdated advice. For example, I used to believe you must change engine oil every 3,000 miles no matter what, but with newer engines and synthetic oils, that is not always necessary. Another big one I hear is that premium fuel will automatically make your car run better, even if the engine is not designed for it.
One myth that can be expensive is people avoiding Japanese cars because they think parts are hard to find or maintenance is complicated. From what I have seen, especially with Japanese imported cars in Pakistan, many models are actually quite reliable if maintained properly and parts availability has improved a lot over the years.
I was researching this topic a while back and found some useful maintenance and import-related info on a site called Nobuko Japan. It was more informational than promotional, which was helpful.
Curious to hear from others here. What is the biggest car maintenance scam or myth you have personally encountered? Did it cost you money or damage your car?
